Product Introduction

The EPSON TG-3541CE is a 32.768 kHz temperature-compensated crystal oscillator (TCXO) with a built-in temperature-compensated crystal. It delivers ±3.4 ppm (XA grade) accuracy, 1.0 µA typical current and a 3.2×2.5×1.0 mm 10-pin package, making it suitable for smart meters, data loggers, industrial HMI and battery-backed devices that must keep time without GPS/NTP correction.

Unlike a passive 32.768 kHz crystal, the TG-3541CE integrates the crystal and compensation circuit, so no external load capacitors or matching are required. The OE pin enables or disables the output, and the 1.5–5.5 V supply covers both 3.3 V and 5 V systems.

Application Pain Points & Solutions

  • Pain: Passive 32.768 kHz crystals drift more than ±20 ppm over -40~+85°C; meters can lose minutes per month.
Solution: ±3.4 ppm XA / ±8 ppm standard; XA monthly error is about 9 seconds.
  • Pain: Remote meters and data loggers have no NTP/GNSS correction for months.
Solution: Built-in temperature compensation keeps long-term drift low without network calibration.
  • Pain: External load capacitors and matching lengthen development and cause batch failures.
Solution: Built-in compensation and the 10-pin 3225 package simplify design; the OE pin controls the output.
  • Pain: High-density PCB needs a small, low-power clock.
Solution: 3.2×2.5×1.0 mm package, 1.5–5.5 V supply and CMOS output.

Core Advantages

  • ±3.4 ppm XA / ±8 ppm standard: High accuracy for metering and long-term timekeeping.
  • -40~+105°C: Industrial temperature range with built-in compensation.
  • 1.0 µA typical: Low power for battery-backed and energy-sensitive designs.
  • OE output enable: The system can enable or disable the clock output.
  • 10-pin 3225 package: Small footprint; no external load capacitors required.

FAQ

Q: What is the difference between XA and XB grades?

A: XA provides ±3.4 ppm over -40~+85°C and ±8.0 ppm over -40~+105°C; XB provides ±5.0 ppm over -40~+85°C. Choose based on accuracy and temperature range.

Q: Does it need external load capacitors?

A: No. The TG-3541CE integrates the crystal and compensation circuit. Keep the 0.1 µF bypass capacitor close to Vcc–GND.

Q: What is the supply current?

A: 1.0 µA typical and 3.0 µA maximum at 3.0 V with no load.

Q: Can the output be disabled?

A: Yes. The OE pin enables or disables the output; OE is active high—do not leave it floating.

Q: Is it suitable for smart meters?

A: Yes. The XA grade's ±3.4 ppm keeps monthly error around 9 seconds, suitable for meters, data loggers and battery-backed timekeeping.
